Motion Capture

Definition

Motion capture (mocap) records the position and rotation of a real person using sensors (optical, inertial, depth). The resulting data is stored in formats like BVH or FBX and applied to the virtual skeleton so the avatar mimics the performer.

Common workflow

  • Tools : OptiTrack/Vicon suits, Kinect, iPhone Face ID, webcams with OpenTrack or VSeeFace.
  • Formats : BVH for bone hierarchies, FBX for 3D exports, blendshapes for facial expressions.
  • Pipeline : capture → cleanup → retargeting → live broadcast.

Motion capture offers natural movement while keeping live workflows manageable.
